In Austria, it will remain mostly dry on Tuesday at 8 degrees – but in just two days, a new cold front will bring back the snow.
From the west, the high pressure influence increases and subsequently provides generally calm weather conditions. In the lowlands, however, an inversion weather situation will set in, which will cause partly tenacious fog and high fog fields. Only on Thursday, a cold front from the north will hit the Alps, resulting in snow, especially in the congested areas.
On Tuesday, away from the Alps, dense, partly high foggy clouds will persist, often tenaciously. In the northeast, a few raindrops or drizzle will fall from time to time, but mostly it will remain dry. From Vorarlberg to Upper Carinthia, apart from local fog patches, the sun will shine frequently, but it will also become increasingly sunny in the eastern mountains. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from westerly directions and with 1 to 8 degrees it will be a bit milder.
Wednesday will also be cloudy on the northern side of the Alps and in the east, but it will remain mostly dry and in the afternoon there will be some clearing. In the mountains it will remain sunny, but at Lake Constance and in the southern basins you must continue to expect tenacious fog. With moderate west to northwest winds, highs will range between 1 and 7 degrees.
Mix of sun and clouds
Thursday will start with high fog in the lowlands, in the morning generally a friendly sun-cloud mix will set in. From noon on, the weather will become cloudy from the north, with light snowfall in the Waldviertel and Mühlviertel. In the evening, the snowfall will spread to the northern Alps and eastern lowlands, changing to rain below 500 to 700 meters. In the south, however, it will remain dry. Strong freshening west wind and from north to south 0 to +8 degrees.
On Friday, widespread and initially heavy snow from the Bregenzerwald to the Wienerwald, slowly decreasing in intensity during the day. In the Danube region and in the east, rain and sleet showers will pass through, with occasional sunny spells in between. In the south it will remain sunny and mostly dry, in predestined locations a strong northerly foehn will freshen up and also from Upper Austria to Burgenland a strong, at the eastern edge of the Alps stormy northwesterly wind will blow. The maximum values: 0 to +8 degrees.
